Beyond the Circus Tent

I am thrilled to announce that my images will be on display at The Gallery in the Valley in Geneseo, NY from March 4th, 2021 – March 31st 2021

Avi Pryntz-Nadworny is a former Cirque du Soleil acrobat and an award-winning photographer. Over the past eight years, he has been photographing some of the world’s best circus artists.

For the month of March, Avi is bringing his exhibit “Beyond the Circus Tent” to downtown Geneseo. This photography exhibit explores identity and individuality of circus performers. “I observed that we, as circus artists, can appear larger than life on stage, making it difficult to relate to us as individuals,” Avi said. “I started creating these dynamic portraits as a means to capture the identity of the performer without the barrier of makeup, costumes, and the spectacle of the stage.”
Avi has photographed artists in China, Mexico, and everywhere in between, but some of his favorite images he shot right here in Avon and Rochester. This collection features international artists photographed in London, Catalonia, Québec, Guadalajara, and Livingston County.

Before becoming a photographer I worked as a circus acrobat. I observed that we can appear larger than life on stage, making it difficult to relate to us as individuals. I started creating these dynamic portraits as a means to capture the identity of the performers.

Before the shoot I ask that the subject to show up in their favorite clothes, helping them to be comfortable and adding another layer of personal expression to the final image. Stripping away the circus tent, costumes, and make-up, I allow the viewer to see the human behind the spectacle.
